Lab Services Q&A

Why do I need lab services?

Lab services provide valuable information about your health. Lab services include lab tests that evaluate your blood, urine, and tissue samples, that may potentially cause health problems.

Lab services check organ function, screen for common health conditions, and diagnose diseases. This information helps to  monitor chronic diseases and the effectiveness of treatment plans.

What tests are offered with lab services?

Common lab tests include:

  • Complete blood count (CBC). ---CBC measures the amount of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets in your blood. This test evaluates nutritional health and checks for infections.
  • Basic and comprehensive metabolic panels
  • The basic metabolic panel (BMP) to check your blood glucose and electrolyte levels, as well as blood markers that help evaluate your kidney functions. The comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) includes the same measures as the BMP, plus liver enzymes and specific proteins. The BMP and CMP evaluate organ function, screen for health conditions, and assess electrolyte and fluid balance.
  • Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c). ---The A1C is a screening test for diabetes. It measures your average blood glucose level over a three-month period.
  • Urinalysis. ---A urinalysis evaluates kidney function and screens for diabetes and checks the effectiveness of diabetes treatment. It’s also used to diagnose urinary tract infections (UTIs).
  • Blood lipid profile ---The blood lipid profile measures your blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, evaluating your risk of heart disease.

How are lab services and medication management connected?

Lab testing are used as a part of disease management service. The data gathered from the diagnostic tests helps to determine if the medications you take for your chronic disease are effective.
